EXPOCAFÉ PERU 2020 AND INTERNAL CONSUMPTION
The Peruvian Chamber of Coffee and Cacao and the National Coffee Board, with the support of the SeCompetitive Program of the Swiss Cooperation SECO, Helvetas Peru and the Swiss Embassy in Peru, lead the Expocafé Peru 2020. The already consolidated fair will seek this year overcome the current crisis due to COVID-19 and make about 800 virtual commercial appointments for the benefit of more than 90,000 coffee-producing families in 47 provinces and 10 departments of the country.

The president of the Peruvian Chamber of Coffee and Cacao, Mr. Ricardo Huancaruna, stressed the importance of the virtual platform and Expocafé Peru 2020, which will allow the sector to connect not only with the internal public, but also with the international public. Regarding the crisis, he declared that although this year will take place less than expected, due to limitations due to the pandemic and internal infrastructure, the sector has sought to overcome by complying with export contracts on time. “We must all work long-term in the country, looking optimistically to the future. It is important that the producing families of the Andes receive the necessary support and support. There are realities that we must all be aware of, for this it is important to promote internal consumption. All entities must row in one direction ”, affirmed Mr. Ricardo Huancaruna.

Expocafé Peru 2020, through the National Virtual Platform for the Promotion of Coffee, will seek to increase internal coffee consumption from 730 grams to more than one kilo per capita a year, to overcome the limitations presented by the coronavirus pandemic, in addition to the fall in the international price of this grain.

VIRTUAL FAIR AND NEW OPPORTUNITIES
Crises are also opportunities. That is why the Expocafé seeks to get ahead and will become a 100% virtual fair that will last not only a few days, but until December 31. Starting in October, an online coffee shop will be implemented, complementing the retail efforts of small producers in remote areas, which do not have marketing channels in Greater Lima.

The virtual platform will also feature numerous activities such as business roundtables, forums, conferences, talks aimed at producers, businessmen and officials of the sector, as well as tasting, barista and latte art demonstrations, which are part of the 2020 Nuestro Café Virtual Festival.
