"Cafés do Brasil" will produce 47 million bags, 32 million of which are arabica coffee and 15 million conilon in 2021
Gross revenue from the Arabica coffee crop was estimated at R $ 20 billion and conilon R $ 6 billion, totaling R $ 26 billion in sales
The production of Cafés do Brasil is estimated at approximately 46.72 million bags of 60kg for the year 2021. The national harvest of Arabica coffee is expected to reach 31.35 million bags, while that of Conilon coffee is forecast at 15, 36 million bags. The state of Minas Gerais will be the federative unit with the largest production of arabica coffee, with an estimated harvest of 20.66 million bags, which represents 66% of the total production of the species in the country. Espírito Santo will be the national protagonist in the production of conilon, with an estimated production of approximately 10.15 million bags in 2021, a volume that also represents 66% of the Brazilian production of the species.
In this context, it is worth mentioning that the area in production of Arabica coffee this year is estimated at 1.38 million hectares, which, compared to the area under production last year, represents a decrease of 8.8%. With an average productivity of 22.7 bags per hectare, which represents a drop of 29.5% in the average productivity of the species compared to 2020, which is justified mainly by the fact that 2021 is a year of negative bienniality, characteristic of coffee Brazilian arabica that alternates a year of higher production with lower production in the following year.
With regard to coffee of the Robusta species, the area under production was estimated at 375 thousand hectares, an area 1.6% greater than last year. The average productivity of the Brazilian conilon crop in 2021 is estimated at 41 bags per hectare, a number 5.6% higher than the productivity of 2020.
The total gross revenue of Cafés do Brasil, based on a survey conducted with reference to the average prices received by producers in January 2021, was estimated at R $ 25.84 billion, being R $ 20.25 billion for coffee of the species Arabica, an amount that corresponds to 78.4% of the calculated total, and R $ 5.6 billion for Conilon coffees, a figure that is equivalent to 21.6% of that same total.
Based on the data from this research, if a ranking of estimated gross sales is established for the five Brazilian geographic regions that produce coffee, considering the two species (Arabica and Conilon), in decreasing order, it appears that the Southeast Region emerges first place with R $ 22.42 billion, the amount of which is equivalent to 86.7% of the total revenue expected for 2021, followed by the Northeast Region, which had its estimate calculated at R $ 1.6 billion, which corresponds to 6.2%.
Continuing this ranking, the Northern Region comes in third place with gross revenue estimated at R $ 1.03 billion, which corresponds to 4%. And, in the sequence, in fourth place, is the South Region with R $ 554.4 million of potential revenue from the coffee activity, which is equivalent to 2.1%. Finally, fifth, is the Central-West Region, which has an estimated gross revenue from coffee plantations of R $ 226.5 million, an amount that corresponds to 0.87% of the total estimated for all coffee plantations in Brazil. .
The data and figures that made this analysis possible were obtained from the Executive Summary of Coffee - March 2021 and the Gross Value of Production - VBP - February 2021, prepared and released monthly by the Secretariat of Agricultural Policy - SPA, of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock and Supply - Map, which started to be analyzed and are available in full at the Café Observatório do Consórcio Pesquisa Café, coordinated by Embrapa Café.
Based on data from the Gross Value of Production - VBP, if a ranking of coffee revenues in the five largest Brazilian coffee producing states is also established, it is noted that Minas Gerais occupies the first place with R $ 14.08 billion, the which is equivalent to 54.4% of total sales, followed by Espírito Santo with R $ 5.15 billion (20%). In third place comes the state of São Paulo with revenues estimated at R $ 2.98 billion (11.5%), fourth in Bahia with R $ 1.6 billion (6.2%) and, finally, Rondônia , which has an estimated gross coffee crop revenue of R $ 979.65 million, an amount that corresponds to 3.7% of the estimate of the VBP of Cafés do Brasil in 2021.
